Lewisham Islamic Institute is a faith based supplementary school which delivers Islamic teachings and prophetic principles in a safe learning environment. A professional and committed team working to deliver an ethos centred on positively transforming pupils through the book of Allah (swt) and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (saw). Our curriculum is broad and balanced and delivered in a comprehensive manner to suit the ranging needs of all its pupils.

The role

We are looking for a volunteer part- time dedicated Quran and Islamic Studies teaching assistant to educate in a thriving and upcoming Islamic institute in the heart of Lewisham. We are looking for a capable assistant teacher who is able to not only teach but build meaningful relationships whilst managing a classroom. We require a volunteer teacher who intends to nurture students and can be seen as a active role model to the students. Additionally, we require teachers to assist students with their Hifdh of Quran, rules of Tajweed or how to read the Quran.

Our teaching time runs from 5:30pm – 7:30pm at the Lewisham Islamic Centre on weekdays and 10:30 am – 12:00pm on a Saturday, therefore teachers will be expected to attend in person. We are flexible to work around in and around these timings.

  • To teach children to learn about Islam and to inspire them to be better Muslims by being a good role model.
  • To follow the lesson plans and curriculum we have established and deliver sessions in a creative and engaging manner.
  • To assess students learning to ensure teaching practice and learning is of the highest standard.
  • To be able to follow and implement all policies and procedures established by Lewisham Islamic Insitiute.


  • Have a commitment to developing the next generation of Muslims in the UK.
  • Must be DBS cleared to be able to work with children
  • Qualified to teach the Quran and has ample knowledge of Islamic Studies.
  • Desirable: QTS or relevant qualification or experience working with children.
  • Communicate and interact with children using the English language.
  • Experience of working with children in the UK.
  • Support children’s learning through Knowledge and understanding of how children learn.
  • Successful applicants will have shown to be proficient in Quran reading with tajweed and be able to deliver basic Islamic studies lessons to children.
  • Please note this role is based on site at the Lewisham and not suitable for online teaching
